Fall 2012: New Yale study shows unconscious gender bias persists for
women in science.

Professor Angela Olinto is appointed Chairperson of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics for a three-year term beginning October 1, 2012. Olinto has also been elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Professor of Chemistry Laurie Butler and Professor of Physics Young-Kee Kim have been elected to the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Professor of Physics Marcela Carena has received a Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Assistant Professor of Physics Margaret Gardel has received an Early Excellence Award from the American Asthma Foundation.

Women in Science: Why So Few?

The PSD Women in Science, The Kavli Institute and the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics recently hosted a seminar by guest speaker Professor C. Megan Urry, Israel Munson Professor of Physics and Astronomy Chair, Department of Physics Director, Yale Center for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Yale University on “Women in Science: Why So Few?”.
